Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS) is a regional service but sits within the Auckland District Health Board (ADHB) organisation and is funded predominantly by the Ministry of Health.

We are committed to working collaboratively across the region and ensure that our resources are used to achieve the best possible public health outcomes. ARPHS works alongside many public sector organisations that have responsibilities for public health and wellbeing. These organisations include local authorities, government agencies, (for example, the New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) and Housing New Zealand Corporation), District Health Boards, Māori and Pacific Island organisations, the Auckland Regional Council (ARC), primary health organisations (PHOs) and other public health providers.

At Auckland Regional Public Health Service, we have a very multi-disciplined team including public health physicians, health protection officers, public health nurses, managers, policy analysts, health promotion practitioners and technical staff. Our workforce remains clearly focused on our organisational vision – Tamaki Makaurau – protecting population health, promoting future wellbeing – to guide us through the challenges ahead.

Our values are reflected in the work we do – being Action Oriented, building and maintaining Healthy Relationships, Valuing Diversity, and acting with Integrity.

As a Crown agency, ARPHS acknowledges the partnership between Māori and the Crown under the Treaty of Waitangi, which is implemented through our commitment to ensuring:

  • Participation at all levels
  • Partnership in service delivery
  • Protection and improvement of Māori health.
