Meningococcal Disease

Auckland Regional Public Health Service nurses are trained and experienced in Meningococcal Disease contact investigations.

ARPHS undertakes contact tracing and follow up, which is usually undertaken on the same day as the disease notification is received. The service is available seven days a week during daylight hours to provide antibiotic prophylaxis. Meningococcal medication is provided free of charge directly into the hands of the contact(s). Written information concerning the medication offered, the dosage, risks in pregnancy and any side effects or medication interactions are also provided. The service will also arrange interpreters if required.
